Day 1 (29 May)

9:00 to 9:30 – Welcome reception and issue of accreditations.

9:30 to 10:00 – Opening of the Conference (institutional speakers).

10:00 to 10:45 – Lecture: “The international year of family farming and the demands of farmers in the world”. Laura Lorenzo (World Rural Forum and Deputy Coordinator of the IYFF-2014).

10:45 to 11:15 – Coffee break

11:15 to 12:00 – Lecture: “The relevance of organizations in the competitiveness and sustainability of family farming”. Michael Cook (University of Missouri, USA).

12:00 to 12:45 – Lecture: “How can the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) contribute to familyf arming in the future?”. Tomás García Azcárate (European Commission).

12:45 to 14:00 – Panel discussion: “The family structure of Almería’s horticultural production and the sector’s competitiveness in exports”. Speakers: professionals from the sector and academic experts.

14:00 to 16:30 – Lunch (VIP dining-room, UAL) and recess.

16:30 to 17:15 – Lecture: “Family farming and development in the context of Euro-Mediterranean relations.” José María García Álvarez- Coque (Polytechnic University of Valencia).

17:15 to 18:00 – Lecture: “The role of women in family farming in Almeria”. Lola Gómez Ferrón (Clisol Agro).

18:00 to 18:30 – Coffee break.

18:30 to 19:30 – Panel discussion: “Produce specialisation and international experience of family farms in Almería”. Speakers: professionals from the sector and academic experts.

  Day 2 (30 May)

9:00 to 9:30 – Screening of the documentary “50 years of greenhouses in Almeria”.

9:30 to 10:40 – Lecture: “Family farming and sustainability in Spanish context”. Andrés Montero (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment). 

10:40 to 11:00 – Coffee break.

11:00 to 11:30 – Lecture:”Lessons from local development based on family farming”. Gianluca Salvatori (European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises, EURICSE, Italy).

11:30-12:15 – Lecture: “The competitiveness of European agriculture through family farming”. Roberto Garcia Torrente / David Uclés Aguilera (Cajamar).

12:15 to 13:30 – Screening of a Documentary on the Congress – Panel discussion: “Conclusions and discussion on family farming in our environment”.

13:30 to 14:00 – Closing event.
